Booking used to be a single run of questions ending in a single thing booked. That suits a haircut and completely misses a garden clean-up with a trailer on the back of it. The flow is now a basket, and every line in it owns its own answers.
- One basket, several kinds of thing. A service, a hire and a delivery can sit in the same booking. Each one is priced from its own shape rather than from whichever came first.
- One question per screen. The page asks one thing at a time, says plainly what has already been answered, and heads each step with the thing being booked rather than with the question.
- Every line answers for itself. Size, extras, dates, how many people, how it gets there. Ask each line, not the basket, because the trailer and the mow rarely want the same answer.
- The list is the page, the setup is a dialog. You see everything you are booking at once, and configuring one of them opens over the top without losing your place.
- A line that is not finished says so. The cart shows a line the customer has not reached yet as pending rather than quietly pretending it is priced.
- Ask once about the things that are shared. When something is delivered, the delivery question is asked once, for the basket, not on every line that happens to involve a van.
You can now sell the job the way you actually do it, instead of asking a customer to book three times.
