Classes and courses

A class is a date with seats in it. The customer is not choosing a time that suits them, they are joining something that is already happening, and that changes how the whole thing works.

Classes get their own page in the main menu, separate from Bookings, because running a class is a different job from running a job.

Sessions and runs

A session is one dated occurrence: Tuesday the 12th, 6pm.

A run is a repeating pattern that produced a group of sessions: "Tuesdays 6:00 PM, 8 dates from 11 August". Sessions created from a run sit underneath it on the class page, so you can see the shape of the term rather than a flat wall of dates.

Genuine one-offs belong to no run and gather together at the bottom.

How people book it

A class can be sold three ways, and you choose on the service:

• Drop in to a single session. Pay for one class, come to one class.
• Sign up for a whole course. Buy the whole run at once.
• Both, where the customer picks.

Seats

Every session has a capacity. It starts at a sensible default and you can change it on the class, on a run, or on any single date, which matters because the room you teach in on Saturdays is rarely the room you teach in on Tuesdays.

The fill on each session is shown as you go, so you can see what is nearly full and what is not selling.

Who is teaching

Set who can teach a class, and assign a teacher to each session. As with any other resource, a teacher who is already busy is not available to be booked twice.

Enrolling someone yourself

Press Enrol on a session to add someone by hand, for the person who paid you in cash at the door. You can enrol the customer themselves, or one of the people on their record, which is how you book a parent's two children into a class without three separate customer records.

Marking the roll

Open a session and you get the roster. Mark people attended or no-show, one at a time or all at once, and filter by who is still to be marked.

It is built to be used at a door, standing up, with a queue behind you. Marks apply immediately rather than waiting on a save.

On the schedule

A class appears on your Month view as one block per session rather than one row per person, so a full class does not bury the rest of your day.

Turning it on

Classes are an addon, under Settings, then Addons. It is on by default for class businesses and hidden for everyone else, and it is not a paid extra: a class business cannot operate without it.
